In the first draft for Half-Blood Prince when Harry’s at the station and Dumbledore comes to meet him, in an early draft of that script Dumbledore said to Harry “I remember a young woman with eyes of flushing whatever… ravened hair” I read this and I scribbled on my copy of the script “Steve, Dumbledore is gay!” Shoved it up the table and Steve goes “ohhh”.
yeah, she just never had the nuts to put it in one of the actual books, so she gets no including-gay-characters points from me.
Same, I find that annoying still. Making Harry a boy because little girls would read about a male protagonist but little boys wouldn’t read about a girl protagonist is a close second.
If it’s not in the canon, then it’s not in the canon, and really it would’ve been so easy to indicate it with even the slightest throwaway line (literally change it to “young man with eyes of flushing whatever” and you don’t need to say anything else, don’t pretend it wouldn’t have been easy).
But the fact that Dumbledore was gay has nothing to do with his character that’s why she didn’t write it in the books. She always knew he was gay but it never came out because it had nothing to do with the story (even though it’s suggested with Grindelwald). The same with McGonagall’s back story. That never came out because it did not move the story along. She’s stated this.
